  4. Welcome to Now Utilities 6.0!  The sixth generation of the most award winning utility software on the Macintosh.

  6. Last September MacUser called Now Utilities 5.0 "The best collection of Utilities you can buy for your Macintosh."  What you now have in your hands, version 6.0, is even better!

  8. Here's an overview of what you will find inside:

  10. You will find three brand new components: Now AutoType, Now Tabs and Now Shortcuts.  You will also find major enhancements to Now Super Boomerang and improvements to Now Startup Manager, Now Menus, Now QuickFiler, Now Save and Now FolderMenus.

  12. Now AutoType lets you create macros for frequently typed words and phrases.  It also watches what you type and creates macros for your frequently typed words and phrases for you automatically - it's pretty cool and very powerful to have Now AutoType build your macros for you.

Now Tabs places a tab bar at the bottom of the screen.  You can really clean up your desktop by dragging open windows to the tab bar where they're stored as tabs.  To open a tab simple click on it and it opens your window once again.  The Now Tabs tab bar also has a "Now" button you can use to launch applications, and open recently used files and folders.

  16. Now Shortcuts lets you hold down a modifier key (such as control) and click on a file or folder in the Finder.  When you release the mouse button a menu of choices like duplicate, lock, share, and make alias will pop-up - choose an item for a "shortcut" way to manage files and folders.

A large part of the power of Now Utilities 6.0 comes from the fact that Now Tabs and Now Shortcuts are extendible: Now Software and third parties can write their own utility "Plug Ins" for Now Utilities 6.0.  Using Now Utilities Plug Ins, you will be able to further customize your Mac and we can offer new functionality without major rewrites.

  20. All of the components in version 6.0 support a hierarchical menu depth that has been increased from 5 to 10 levels.  You will find that you can navigate deeply into the drives and folders on your system.

Our favorite improvements are in Now Super Boomerang.  In NSB we've made the menus in the Open and Save dialogs hierarchical _and_ 10 levels deep.  With the new Super Boomerang, you can navigate to almost any location on your hard drives to save and open files.  We guarantee this one feature is worth the price of admission.  Did we mention that you can click on a folder icon in the list of an Open or Save dialog and get a hierarchical menu there, too?

  24. Now QuickFiler now has the ability to "Move to..." recent files and folders thanks to Super Boomerang.  And you can access Now QuickFiler's Archive and Compress commands with Now Shortcuts. You'll find archiving and managing your archives easier with these new features.

  26. We've improved the interface to Now Startup Manager, you'll find fewer items to configure here making and it makes Startup Manager easier to use.  We've also linked Now Save and Now Startup Manager to make it easier for you to get to Now Save's Saved Work files after a crash.

  28. Now Folder Menus can now be used to navigate through folders that are 10 levels deep - again making file and folder management just a little easier.
